Scott Soule – Footprint Engineering – NBV Member

Scott grew up in Maine (the only one syllable state in the country), attended the University of Wyoming (go Pokes!), and entered the U.S. Air Force as an officer in the Civil Engineering Squadron at McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS.  He has lived and practiced (perfected) structural engineering in the valley since 1990, when he moved with his family (wife, kids, dogs, and tornado dust).  They quickly fell in love with the area and strive to take full advantage of all its attributes.

Scott’s structural engineering background covers: Seismic analyses and lateral load design, code evaluations and interpretations, remodel and retrofit design, timber and wood engineered structures, historic structure assessment and stabilization, military facilities and contracts, retaining structures, constructability reviews, forensic investigations of existing structures, expert testimony, structural observations, and structural design of new buildings.  Scott’s design experience covers a broad spectrum of building types such as schools, churches, hospitals, commercial, retail, residential, and military structures. He also has experience utilizing a wide range of construction materials to fit any architectural design including: concrete, masonry, steel, wood, and light gauge steel.  He’s even designed projects in hay, dirt, and glass; as long as it can support itself, he can find a use for it.

Scott listens to clients and works with them to create projects as a team.  He is creative and able to solve difficult structural issues while always maintaining buildable designs.  He maintains a philosophy that any engineer can make a building stand up; it takes a good engineer to make a building just stand up.

As a side note, Scott is also fluent in beer; he founded and ran a brew-on-premise called BrewWorks in the mid 90’s.  So if you get tired of talking to him about deflection criteria, ask him the difference between a Marzen and a Bock.
